PERNOD RICARD POSTED RECORD TURNOVER OF €6B IN H2 2021, ASIAN MARKETS GREW 16%

French wines and spirits giant Pernod Ricard has posted record turnover in the second half of 2021 with revenues of €5.96 billion (USD5.22b), due to strong purchasing power of consumers in Asia, Europe and the Americas.

France’s financial year begins in July, overall sales growth in the first half of 2021-2 (July to December 2021) was 17 percent compared to same period last year.

Profits during this period was €2b, representing an increase of 22 percent, beat analysts’ expectations of a 16.7 percent increase. In terms of global breakdown, Asia showed impressive growth of 16 percent, driven by China, India and Turkey.

Sales grew by 14 percent in the Americas, notably in USA, Brazil and travel retail sector.

However, the strongest performer was Europe where sales increased by 21 percent, with demands up in Spain, France, Eastern Europe and travel retail.

Pernod Ricard partly attributed the record-breaking revenue to the the strength of the US Dollar and the Chinese Yuan versus the Euro.

Brands performing well included Perrier-Jouët Champagne (+51 percent), Royal Salute (+41 percent), Beefeater (+31 percent), Ballantine’s (+29 percent), Absolut and Chivas Regal (+23 percent) and Jameson (+22 percent).

Alexandre Ricard, Chairman and CEO of Pernod Ricard, commented: “The execution of our Transform & Accelerate strategy is delivering an excellent and broad-based performance in the first half, with brand share gains in most countries and with all our Must-Win Markets showing very strong growth.”

“Despite the ongoing volatile environment, we expect for FY22 strong sales growth across regions, with continued on-trade rebound, off-trade resilience and a gradual travel retail recovery. We will increase investments to fuel growth momentum," he added.

Sales were up 20 percent in the first quarter of the financial year, but growth slowed to 14 percent for the second quarter.
